Video: Paul Bakery Opens Flagship Store in Washington, D.C.

The mayor of Washington, D.C. and hungry guests turned out for the opening of Paul Bakery in the nation's capitol. They feasted on Champagne Mimosas, sandwiches, croissants, pastries, and -- of course -- French macarons.

The 120 year old French, family-owned firm has decided to put its flagship store for the U.S. in D.C. with more stores to follow in other locations. The bakery was founded in 1889 in Lille in northern France. It now has 500 stores in 22 countries around the world, including London, Bahrain, Belgium, Amsterdam, Madrid, Tokyo, Jordan, Qatar and Switzerland.

Phillippe Sanchez, the Paul USA president, says that going to Paul is "Like going to Paris, but it's less expensive than flying to France." The bakery uses recipes that have been handed down from the family. It takes seven hours to make a loaf of Paul bread. The flour for Paul's is USDA certified organic and is sourced from Wisconsin.
