Gas prices continue to climb, defying reports last week that gas prices were leveling off. The AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report, available here, has the nationwide average gas price at $3.93. This is 8 cents higher than a week ago and over 30 cents higher than a month ago.
The all-time record average gas price of $4.114 was record on July 17, 2008. The current average is only about 18 cents short of the all-time high. Hawaii is the state with the highest nationwide average gas price. Gas costs an average of $4.578 in Hawaii. There are several states with an average gas prices of $4 or higher, including Alaska, California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio and Wisconsin.
